Smartphones in the Swedish upper-secondary classroom: A policy enactment perspective

This study addresses normative orientations to smartphone use in Swedish upper-secondary classrooms. We present a Nexus Analysis from policy enactment perspective of material comprising ethnographic interviews, classroom video observations, and screen capture, investigating how cultural conception the as source disturbance is negotiated discursive embodied social action. Three groups actors – head teachers, students balance competing agendas such digitalization strategies, popular media narratives, student autonomy peer relationship maintenance. There tension between legitimate resource for socialization learning digitalized classroom, but also an exception desired potential threat disciplinary order classroom. Notably, display considerable awareness tensions, reflective comments made interviews displayed strategies managing their smartphones class.
